James 5:7-8 KJV
[7] Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. [8] Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
As a Christian, we should have no greater desire than the coming of the Lord, but have we grown weary of waiting? Christians have been waiting for his return for nearly 2,000 years.
That’s a long time to wait, so how do we do so patiently? We occupy until he comes.
Luke 19:12-13 KJV
[12] He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. [13] And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
How do we “occupy”? We perform the tasks the master has called us to do.
First, if we have a family, we occupy by providing for our children. We must earn a living to buy their food, clothing, and shelter, but we must also provide their spiritual nourishment. It is our job as parents to raise our children in the fear of the Lord.
Second, we must perform the call that God has given us. Some of us are hands called to serve others. Others are feet called to the mission field. Another may be a mouth called to preach the Gospel, while someone else is called to teach the youth.
Whatever the callings are on your life, perform them while you occupy, and your patience will increase.
