Preparing Your Heart

1 Samuel 12:24 KJV

Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

While this passage comes from the Old Testament, when I read it, I think of the cross. The greatest thing God has ever done for us is sacrifice His son, so that we can have eternal life. But we can only have it if we prepare our heart.

Preparing our heart for heaven seems easy enough, but this world tries to keep us from it. Jesus told us:

Matthew 6:21 KJV
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

If we bind our whole existence into this world, our heart won’t be in heaven. If we only care about our day-to-day existence, our heart won’t be in heaven. If we place our worth in the things that we possess, our heart won’t be in heaven.

Preparing our heart means storing treasures in heaven. Let’s make sure our heavenly bank account is full of gems and gold when we get there!
