Jeremiah 6:16 KJV
Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
When we study history or the Bible, our intent should not be to find fault with our forefathers but to understand why they chose their course of action. Often when we research the why, we find great wisdom in their decision-making.
The old paths were used for a reason, and we need to make it our purpose to find that reason rather than forging our own paths. Christ told us to stay on the straight and narrow way (Matt. 7:14). God instructed us to walk in the old, good way because He never changes (Jer. 6:16).
This is why you can’t change your theology to fit the day and age you find yourself in. We must take God at His word and serve Him the same yesterday, today, and forever, for he changes not (Mal. 3:6).
