When God Says No

Genesis 2:17 KJV
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

The Bible tells us that God cannot lie (Titus 1:2), so we know that this statement is 100% truthful. Satan directly contradicts this statement in the next chapter when he says, “Ye shall not surely die” (Gen. 3:4).

Eve was facing temptation. The Bible tells us that she looked at the fruit and it was pleasant to the eyes (verse 6). The Bible tells us Satan uses 3 tricks to draw us into temptation:

1 John 2:16 KJV
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

In this instance, Satan used the lust of the eyes to draw Eve in. Jesus also faced these three temptations in Matthew 4. Here’s the difference: Eve gave into the temptation; Jesus did not. He is the only person with a 100% success rate when facing temptation.

If you’re facing temptation, don’t face it alone - take Jesus with you! He can help you overcome just as he did. But alone, you WILL fail.
