MAKING YOUR MISTAKES RIGHT
MAKING YOUR MISTAKES RIGHT
PASTOR BUD BRABSON - SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1
1 CHRONICLES 13:13-14
1 CHRONICLES 15:1
Sometimes we make mistakes, we see something one way but it is the wrong way.
See things differently than they are.
For 70 years they hadn’t seen the Arc of the Covenant. The Philistines would move the Arc from city to city and they would have mice problems & hemorrhoids. They put it on a cart drawn by oxen to move it out of their care. A Levite house then cared for it for 70 years.
Saul as king never attempted to bring the Arc back to where it was meant to be. David was named king, Joab retook Jerusalem. David made a fortress, the City of David. David’s desire was to move the Arc of the Covenant, back to his homeland. He ruled over the twelve tribes of Israel and wanted the Arc to abide in Jerusalem.
FIRST ATTEMPT CHAPTER 13:
- Transported the ark on a “new cart” (human innovation)
- Consulted the captains and leaders
- Atmosphere of excitement and impulse
- Resulted in death and fear
They did it their way, the world’s way, not Gods way!! We have to follow Gods plan and direction, we cannot work and function on impulse. We have to make an effort to do it Gods way. Even with the best intentions, if we do the right thing in the wrong way it will result in failure. Popular opinion many times will lead us astray.
Take time to seek God on every matter. We need those around us that will help to seek God and help to obey his plan. Hid does not bless impulse or zeal. He blesses obedience and sacrifice. Spiritual carelessness always pays a high price. Doing things the world’s way is never the right way; we must seek him for the right way. The details really matter to God.
The Arc stayed at Obed-Edoms home for three months. During that time, the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and his entire household. The presence of God, which had brought fear when handled improperly, brought blessing when honored and respected. This blessing was so evident that it motivated David to try again, this time in obedience.
SECOND ATTEMPT CHAPTER 15:
- Carried the ark on the shoulders of the Levites (God’s instruction)
- Consulted the Word of the Lord
- Atmosphere of reverence and preparation
- Resulted in joy and blessings
David never forgot the dream to move the Arc. The Word is just as important now as it was when it was given to be written. He did things as God spoke for them to be done. Failing to prepare is the same as preparing to fail. Gods purpose and plan will always follow his word, it will never deviate from His Word.
David realized his mistake!! He realized the error of his ways!!
And at some point, you have to be honest with yourself. Don’t keep doing the same thing over and over, thinking that one day you’ll finally get it right, because if the method is wrong, it’s not going to suddenly start working.
When David finally consulted the Word of God, he discovered something important: it wasn’t that God didn’t want the Ark moved to Jerusalem. That was never the issue. The issue was how he was doing what God had already approved.
If you’re a child of God and your life is in constant turmoil, if you’re cycling through the same struggles over and over again, there has to be a come-to-Jesus moment. A moment where you get honest before God and say, “Lord, I know You don’t mess up, but somewhere along the way, I’ve messed this up.” I shouldn’t be living like this. I shouldn’t be stuck here. I’m supposed to be blessed and highly favored. I’m supposed to be walking in the light as You are in the light, so why does my life feel completely upside down?
If you’ll take the time to get on your face before God, He won’t show you where He failed, He’ll lovingly show you where you got off course. And that revelation isn’t condemnation; it’s an invitation to do it His way and experience the blessing that comes with obedience.
Uzzah still died. When David corrected the method and followed God’s Word, it brought blessing and joy—but it did not undo what had already happened. Obedience doesn’t always remove consequences; it redirects what comes next.
Many of the things that are happening in our world today, especially in our churches Many of the things that are at fault, are due to the the elders of the church not doing what they are called to do. They are not teaching what the Bible commands them to teach.
David has everything placed correctly, he followed the Word and the Arc was returned.
Leave your cart behind and do things the way that God has directed them to be done. What you’ll find is when you go back to where you left it, it’ll still be there. And God will give you the right way. God will show you the way through His Word, and He’ll direct you and help you get it right the next time.
Because David went to the Word, it revealed to him the correct way. When he comes to the city he is rejoicing before the Lord! He made the decision to do it God’s way and in his presence. Any act of obedience and sacrifice within the Word of God was always honored with victory by the Lord!!
If we get it right and correct our mistakes, those that follow will know to get it right too. Make our mistakes right.
