John 8:35-36 KJV
And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
The New King James Version brings out the meaning for these verses a little better. In that version, substitute the word servant for slave.
In this day in age, it’s hard to fathom slavery, because - thankfully - it has been outlawed in our country for over 150 years. However, if Jesus isn’t in your heart, you are a slave to sin.
Romans 6:16-18 KJV
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
These verses in Romans tell us we can be servants to sin or to Jesus. The choice is ours to make. We can only be free if we allow Jesus to liberate us from the chains of sin.
He alone can turn a slave into a son or a daughter. Take the woman with the issue of blood for example: Her faith turned her from from just a “woman” in verse 20 of Matthew 9 to a “daughter” in verse 22.
Children know they are always welcome at their parents’ home, and that is exactly what God wants for you! He wants to fellowship with you and give you access to His blessings and provision.
Will you serve him today?
