Silent Prayer

Nehemiah 2:4-5 KJV

Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. [5] And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it.

The first thought I had when reading these scriptures was that of silent prayer. I HIGHLY doubt Nehemiah was like hang on king, I’m going to totally ignore your question, go off and pray, and then come back and respond. No, Nehemiah prayed silently, but the prayer was no less powerful.

We aren’t told what Nehemiah prayed, but I can guess he asked the Lord to bless what he was about to ask the king. He probably said a quick prayer: “Lord help me!” or “Lord give me favor!”

Sometimes, we don’t have time to pray out loud. Sometimes, it’s not a proper situation to pray out loud. Sometimes, we’re too weak to create an audible prayer, but God hears us regardless.

God hears the silent prayers along with the loud ones. He hears our heart. He knows our thoughts and our needs, but He still wants us to petition him - even when it’s in silence.
