Pursuit is an action word. If we desire happiness, we must be taking steps to see it come to pass. Happiness is not something that magically appears in our lives.
The problem is we humans tend to complicate matters. When we make an action plan and fail to seek God for his leading on the matter, we make a mess of our situation; therefore, preventing our happiness.
Phillipians 4:6 tells us to “let our request be known to God.”
God is part of the process of our pursuit of happiness. We need to actively be seeking Him for his guidance, direction, and wisdom in the action plan we are taking.
Two-thirds of God may be “go,” and I believe the Lord likes when we are ambitious and action-oriented. After all, He praised the servants who doubled their talents and reprimanded the one who buried his (Matt. 25). We must never fail, however, to get the direction God has for us.
David desired to build God a temple, and Nathan the prophet mistakenly gave David the green light for building in 2 Samuel Chapter 7. Nathan later had to retract his statement because he failed to seek God on the matter. God was still faithful to David’s desire though! He let him see through every step of the preparation and planning process, but the temple was Solomon’s to build.
The lesson in Nathan’s failure: never assume you know God’s will; rather, seek His face for the right path.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:6).
