1 Kings 20:28 KJV
And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the Lord, Because the Syrians have said, The Lord is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
God is Lord of all: every need, circumstance, and area. It’s all His! He owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Ps. 50:10).
King David knew this better than most. He lived through many mountains & valleys, and the Lord watched over him through them all.
God was with David when Saul was trying to kill him (a valley) and when he became king of Israel (a mountain top).
Even the man after God’s own heart (1 Sam 13:14), can tumble down off the mountain top into a valley.
David did exactly that when he sinned with Bathsheba and killed her husband Uriah, but God said, even if we make our bed in hell (Ps. 139:8), he’s there.
Before we repent, God is there dealing with us. Sometimes He uses the Holy Spirit to prick our hearts, and sometimes He sends a messenger - like he did with David, sending Nathan the prophet.
But no matter what, we must remember: He’s always there. He is the God of mountains & the God of the valleys.
