The Lord gives a parable in Matthew 25 about wise and foolish virgins. Some were ready for their husband to come and take them away and had all the necessary supplies. Others were not prepared and when they bridegroom came, they missed out.
We must always be prepared for the Lord’s coming and live our lives with the excitement that this could be the day! This parable draws the line between those eagerly awaiting His coming and those who believe they have plenty of time to “get right” with the Lord.
In Matthew 26, while Jesus is praying in the garden of Gethsemane, he tells Peter, James, and John to wait with Him while he prays. The disciples loved Jesus, but they fell asleep every time Jesus left to pray.
Our flesh often gets in the way of our duty to Christ. He may ask us to do something, but when it conflicts with our fleshly desires, which do we give into? If we aren’t careful, giving into the flesh too often can lead to us denying Christ (Matt. 26:70,72,74).
Last, James tells us:
James 1:12 KJV
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
We can receive the crown of life *if* we keep our LOVE for Jesus (see above). Don’t let your relationship grow cold. Keep the fire, keep the passion, and fall even more deeply in love with the Savior.
