Keep Pouring
1 Samuel 16:1 KJV
And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
As ministers of God, small and great, we are tasked to pour into others. Some of us that task is limited to our children, friends, and family. For others, that task includes great leaders and noblemen. Whether your calling is small or great, we are all tasked to pour ourselves into others to help them inherit the kingdom of God.
In the Old Testament, the man of God would pour out a horn of oil upon the called of God to symbolize the power (horn) and anointing (oil) of God. Samuel anointed several individuals in his life: his sons, King Saul, and eventually, King David.
Before anointing King David, Samuel was glum. He was in mourning because all the individuals he poured God’s favor upon were failing the Lord. He was old, tired, and done with pouring himself into other just to see them throw all his hard work away.
But what if God said that about us? How quick are we to forget his blessings and forgiveness and provision and just throw in the towel. No matter how old or useless you may feel, God has a job for you to do.
Even if every ounce of oil you’ve poured out has been wasted by the recipient, keep on pouring because the next person might just be the next King David.
Press on and do the work of God!
