Balance

Ecclesiastes 3:7-8 ESV

a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

Each of these pairings are opposites. Sewing and tearing, war and peace, love and hate… the wisest man save Jesus Christ, King Solomon, tells us that there is a time in life for each of these things; therefore, life is all about balance.

We can’t spend all our time speaking or we’ll never have time to process our thoughts or what God is trying to tell us. We can’t spend all our time hating or not being’ll never experience the joy that love can bring. We need balance in our lives.

We need to be working hard and playing hard. We need to be intensely saving, spending, and giving. When we completely neglect an aspect of our life, we are missing out on the blessings that can come from that area.

Think about your muscles: if you only develop your biceps, you’ll have massive arms and scrawny legs. Don’t do that. You’ll look weird…

Sometimes, life comes in seasons. We may be completely dedicated to one area of our life for a season, but if we stay focused in only one area for too long, the other areas will suffer. Stay balanced, and give every area of your life some of your focus:

⁃ Spiritual
⁃ Physical
⁃ Family
⁃ Career
⁃ Education/Personal Development
⁃ Finances
⁃ Recreation
