Suffering Is Temporary
Psalm 30:5 KJV
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
The second part of this verse was the promise I received from God when I was pregnant with Maci. Long before God gave me the promise, I had already decided on Joy as Maci’s middle name. Little did I know how much I would need that Joy.
When I was about 2/3 through my pregnancy, we discovered my mom was terminally ill and would pass in a matter of weeks. She fought so hard to make it to Maci’s arrival, but she passed one month and one day before Maci was born.
I held tight to God’s promise: weeping may endure for a night, but Joy comes in the morning. The promise is actually two-fold. First, my grief and my sorrow would one day lessen as I held the Joy of my new baby in my arms. Second, one day we’re going to leave this world of sorrow, death, grief, and problems and enter into God’s kingdom! There I will be reunited with my mom.
No matter what we face in this world of sin, it is only temporary. In Luke 4, we see that Jesus was tempted and tried in the wilderness and successfully refused every one of Satan’s plots. Afterwards, Satan flees from him for a season. If you’re in a season of trial and temptation, your season of rest is coming.
If you’re in a season of grief, hold your head up high because though your weeping may endure for a night, your JOY comes in the morning! God will bring you into a season of joy again and will lessen your grief.
We all face hard seasons, but we must remember: they are always temporary.
