God Protects His People

It is not ironic at all that we were in the midst of reading Esther when Hamas brutally attacked the citizenry of Israel. From Pharoah to Haman to Hitler to Hamas. There have always been people influenced by Satan to destroy the Jews.

The book of Esther tells us about Haman’s plot to destroy the Jews. God knows the end from the beginning. He knew Mordecai would be faithful to Him. He knew Haman would hate Mordecai and as a result, all Jews. He knew Xerxes would fall for Esther’s beauty and He knew Esther would be faithful to petition the king to save her people. God knows ALL.

We, however, do not know all. Esther did not know Xerxes would grant her petition. Similarly, Haman did not know the gallows he prepared for Mordecai would be his own death trap.

After Haman was forced to parade Mordecai around the town as a victor for preventing the death of the king, Haman felt defeated. His wife and friends didn’t have any encouraging words for him either:

Esther 6:13 ESV
And Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, "If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of the Jewish people, you will not overcome him but will surely fall before him."

Side note: These “wise men” interestingly had the same title as the wise men that came to worship Jesus after his birth - magi. Regardless of their title, these men must have noticed that the Jewish people cannot be defeated. God always makes a way to protect them and favor them.

God did exactly that, Haman desired to place Mordecai on the gallows, but instead, God ensured Haman was put upon them:

Esther 7:9-10 ESV
Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, said, "Moreover, the gallows that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing at Haman's house, fifty cubits high." And the king said, "Hang him on that." [10] So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.

God is righteous! He judges according to our hearts and our actions. He will not allow injustice to remain:

Psalm 96:10 ESV
Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity."

Those who have attacked the Jewish people past, present, and future will not fair well. God will avenge His people. He will judge with equity. Pray for Israel!
